Candidates for Huntingdon have given their views on plans to build a wind farm at Cotton Farm near Graveley.Planning permission for the eightturbine wind farm has been refused by Huntingdonshire District Council but Npower are appealing over the decision.Local residents have formed a campaign group to oppose the development amid concerns about the impact the wind farm would have on the area.General Election hopefuls for the Huntingdon seat spoke to BBC News.Jonathan Djanogly, the Conservative candidate, said he supports wind power but is not in favour of the project.He said the proposed site is simply the wrong place and that he is disappointed that NPower is appealing.Strong argumentMartin Land, the Liberal Democrat candidate, said that it is important that the views of people living near potential wind farm sites are listened to.He said the country needs to have wind farms, but that it has to be done sympathetically.Anthea Cox, the Labour candidate, said she supports wind power but that the campaigners who are opposing the development have made a very strong argument.If this site is not appropriate, then we have to identify a site that is, she said.ReluctanceIan Curtis, the candidate for the UK Independence Party, said that he does not support the wind farm project and believes the best way to go is nuclear power.Green Party candidate John Clare said that he is in favour of wind power but that he understands people feel reluctance to have these things next to them.Independent candidate Jonathan Salt said renewable energy is really important but opposes the Cotton Farm project, saying he would look at the possibility of putting turbines on the weirs down the Ouse.The general election will take place on 6 May. The candidates announced for Huntingdon are: Green: John Clare; Labour: Anthea Cox; UK Independence Party: Ian Curtis; Conservative: Jonathan Djanogly; Animal Protection Party: Carrie Holliman; Monster Raving Loony Party: Toby Jug; Liberal Democrat: Martin Land; Independent: Jonathan Salt.
